OpenMost people search for legal help at a stressful moment — an FIR, a bounced cheque, a property dispute, a divorce or a new business. Law Line India explains Indian law in plain language so you understand your position before you pay anyone.
Our guides follow the new criminal laws in force from 1 July 2024 — the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) — along with the Limitation Act, Transfer of Property Act, Negotiable Instruments Act and Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Every guide links to the official text on India Code or the Supreme Court of India so you can verify it.
This site gives general information, not legal advice, and does not advertise or recommend any advocate. For advice on your facts, speak to an enrolled advocate who has read your papers.
Four steps that save time and money, whether you need bail, a legal notice, a property document or a consumer complaint.
Look up the exact section first. Search all 358 sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, convert old IPC numbers, and read what the Supreme Court has held in landmark judgments.
Missing a limitation period can end a case before it starts. Work out the last date to file under the Limitation Act, 1963, and find the correct consumer commission and fee for your claim.
Fill in a free, editable format — rent agreement, affidavit, property sale deed, agreement to sell or bail application — and print it with space left for stamp paper, ready for a lawyer to review.
Before you hire anyone, confirm an advocate’s enrolment with the State Bar Council, or a CA/CS membership with ICAI or ICSI. Ask for a written scope and fee; you only proceed if you agree.
