How consumer court jurisdiction works
Since 30 December 2021, the Consumer Protection (Jurisdiction of the District Commission, the State Commission and the National Commission) Rules, 2021 decide the forum by the value of goods or services paid: up to ₹50 lakh goes to the District Commission, above ₹50 lakh up to ₹2 crore to the State Commission, and above ₹2 crore to the National Commission in New Delhi.
The fee is paid online through e-Daakhil or by demand draft/postal order to the Commission. Complaints of up to ₹5 lakh carry no fee. Unfair-contract complaints follow separate rules, and appeals need a statutory deposit (50% of the award for appeals to State and National Commissions).
